I Want It And I Don’t
Have you ever felt like this? You want something, but you don’t want to do what needs to be done to achieve it?
It is very common to see this happening with diets. You want to lose weight, but when push comes to shove, you decide you don’t want it anymore; then you dig into a chocolate ice cream tub only to formalize your unwillingness to continue the diet. To be honest with you, I gave up on this torment! Now I say, “I’d like to lose a little bit of weight, but I don’t want to stop eating because of that!” By doing this, you can even slim down a bit because all you have to do is to cut down on the foods that cause you to put on weight and exercise more.
The problem is that this simple and practical rule of thumb does not work for the important things in life:
You want to forget your ex but you can’t stop thinking about him or crying because of him. You keep on checking what he’s doing on Facebook, with whom he is cheating on you, listening to love songs that make you cry… You look in the mirror and hate the needy and dependent person you have become, and then you cry a little bit more. You look at your food, but you don’t feel like eating. You look at your house, but you don’t feel like doing anything.
The truth is that you don’t want to forget your ex. Who knows, if you remain in this depressive mode, he might come like a knight in shining armor, knock on your door and apologize to you? Maybe he’ll do it in the street, preferably when it’s raining, just so you can end your romantic movie with a passionate kiss…
Deep down, you like the feeling of being down in the dumps, as if you’d given up on life—by doing this, you don’t need to explain why you’re not the person you could have been, after all, “Look at how I am suffering! Look at what he did to me! I don’t deserve this!”
Now, this is going to hurt… but remember, I do not know you, and I’m just trying to wake you up. Here it is:
YOU ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE YOU WANT, so YES, YOU DESERVE IT.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
When you’re not willing, you say you want to change, but keep whining because you can’t.
How dare you say you want to change?
Use common sense, not your emotions. There’s no other way, sorry!
